Smocking at the waistband only
Several rows of elastic smocking sit at the waist and stop there. The bodice above is cut rather than gathered, which gives a cleaner line across the chest than a fully smocked dress while still letting the waist stretch.
Lantern sleeves, elastic cuffs
The sleeve balloons between shoulder and wrist and is drawn in by an elastic cuff. It is a warmer shape than a flat sleeve without adding fabric weight, and it keeps the wrist clear of a plate or a steering wheel.
Black as a denim colour
Medium blue is the expected option; black is the one that changes the dress. In black the Lyocell blend loses most of its jean association and the tiered hem has to carry the look on its own.
Fit, honestly
Knee length with a forgiving A-line below the smocked waistband. Sizing spans S through XL, which the chart maps to US 4-6 up to 16-18. The blend carries one percent spandex, so the give is gentle everywhere except the waistband and the cuffs.
