Check price & buyBurnout is the opposite process to flocking: the velvet pile is etched away in a floral pattern so the sheer ground shows through where the design sits. Over a lining, that produces a two-tone surface with no printing involved. Crew neck, flutter short sleeves, a tie at the waist and an A-line skirt below it. Four colourways and all of them deep, dark blue through green bronze, dark purple and black brown, which is a set chosen for cold months.

The floral comes from removing pile rather than adding colour, so the design shows as a change in texture and transparency. Against the lining, the etched areas read lighter while the remaining velvet reads dense and matte.
The belt ties where the wearer wants it, which moves the waistline up or down and lets one dress suit a short torso and a long one. Left loose, the A-line simply hangs straight from the shoulders instead.
Dark blue, green bronze, dark purple and black brown. Green bronze and black brown are the two that shift with the light, since burnout velvet shows a second tone wherever the pile has been taken away.
Sizes run S to XL on the usual numbers, 4-6 up to 16-18. The tie at the waist is the adjustment, so the fit is as close or as loose as it gets pulled, and the skirt falls A-line from there. The maker says a gentle machine cycle is fine.
